Volunteer:
As a Volunteer for Family Scholar House your support through activities like mentoring, tutoring or donations help give these single-parents the support they need to pursue higher education. It is our hope that through education and your support, we can effectively help them break the cycle of poverty for their children and future generations.
Become a Mentor
Mentors provide support to our participants as they navigate their way through college and career planning. We welcome mentors from all career fields.
Childcare Volunteers Welcome
Empowerment for Family Success (E4FS), our monthly workshops, are presented with topics of interest and relevance to our families. Single-Parent students take part in life skills workshops while their children explore the same topic in age-appropriate sessions.
Become a Tutor
Tutors provide one-on-one academic support to participants or participants’ children at Family Scholar House. This is a great opportunity to share your expertise with others.
Provide On-Site Childcare at Family Scholar House
Our participants are busy students and single parents who need
time to study and run errands. This is a great project for groups of
friends or co-workers who enjoy volunteering together.
Join the Spirit Team
Family Scholar House’s Spirit Team organizes many special events
designed to provide support and fun for participants and their
children throughout the year.
Activities include:
- Pack a Back Pack
- Annual Holiday Party
- Finals Week Survival Kit
- Summer Celebration Picnic
- Halloween Trick or Trunk
- Easter Hunt Party
Coordinate Donations
Picture all the items you use in a typical day – from furniture to
cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products to school supplies.
Family Scholar House supplies all these items to our participants from
donations. Volunteers can organize donations from friends, family,
and colleagues. Supplies needed may change from week to week,
so call us!
Project Role Model
Project Role Model is an opportunity for our participant's children
to identify and experience positive relationships with men from
the community in monthly group interactions that center on
games, crafts, tutoring, and field trips. Professional men age 21
and older interested in encouraging Family Scholar House children are
needed.
